SHARE FOR SMILES e.V. supports educational projects in Africa and puts great emphasis on the development of sustainable perspectives
Presents with a special social significance, just like the SHARE FOR SMILES Africa Calendar' is the core of our fundraising activities.
With the support of our projects, like schools and orphan projects, we focus on the funding of socio-economic and ecological sustainable measures. Therefore, the long-term independence of the projects from continuous funds is the vision for our sustainable action.
Some of you have probably noticed that there are no Africa calendars available this year.
We are currently concentrating on the realization of the project in cooperation with SAVE Wildlife in Botswana.
Share for Smiles wishes all customers, donors and friends a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year!
In March this year, before the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, SFS representatives Heinz, Boitumelo and Tobias visited the community in Matsaudi. Together with representatives of the village community, the next steps for the construction of the SFS Learning Centre in Matsaudi, on the selected plot of land (marked red in the aerial photograph), were agreed upon. This joint project will benefit the entire Matsaudi community and especially the children and young people.
The project plan envisages the development of a boma (a fortified covered outdoor space without the classic brick four walls) with two classrooms, an office, three children's toilets, two adult toilets, a storage room and an energy-efficient outdoor kitchen. The boma will serve as a central recreation area for the playgroup and can accommodate 80 to 100 children. Beyond the kindergarten, young people will be able to use the boma in the Learning Centre for wood carving, basketry, environmental education activities and for cultural events or seminars.

Rupert Klein and Dr. Christian Hien is supporting SHARE FOR SMILES for the second time with a total of 2,700 euros. Rupert Klein has been designing a beautiful Regensburg calendar with self-photographed pictures for ten years and donates the proceeds to us. His dentist Dr. Hien, who is also convinced of the SHARE FOR SMILES vision, supports us again. This time, the donation will benefit our children's and youth project in Maun, Botswana.
Based on the successful cooperation between SHARE FOR SMILES and SAVE Wildlife Fund, we built a Learning Centre in Shakawe, Botswana, in 2018. We are currently planning another Learning Centre with a similar concept for the community in Matsaudi, Botswana. With the purchase of this Africa Calendar you help us to build the Learning Centre in Matsaudi.
The Learning Centre will include a play group for early childhood development and a youth center. The main goal is to help needy children develop the skills they need to get ready for school. This will be combined with environmental education, which will implement the vision of protecting the uniqueness of nature in the Okavango Delta by sensitizing children and youth to a respectful use of natural resources. Further information about our funded projects can be found here.
In the children's home for girls in Kilifi, Kenya, run by Kenia-Hilfe Buxheim e.V., the water can now be heated in a cost-saving and environmentally friendly way thanks to the support of SHARE FOR SMILES with a modern solar thermal system for heating domestic water. "Sun is pretty much the only thing that the people in Kenya have in abundance," says the chairman of the association Roland Herbst. Therefore the thought was obvious to use solar energy with the help of a Solarthermie plant for the warm water production. Due to the high cost of electricity, the heating of the water has so far been avoided in warmer months, but this led to colds and other illnesses of the girls due to the cold showers. Besides the river precipitates frequently also once or twice per week for several hours, so that also therefore no stable warm water supply was present. Thanks to the solar thermal system, the girls now enjoy hot water all year round when showering.
The Weltladen in Neuburg an der Donau has supported SHARE FOR SMILES for many years. In the core of its activities, the World Shop is committed to ensuring that more justice is "lived" in trade relations between the countries of the Global South and the North. All persons are involved in the World Shop on a voluntary basis. Every year the Weltladen in Neuburg donates the net proceeds to selected projects. SHARE FOR SMILES as a selected organization has received a donation from the World Shop in Neuburg for years. The 1st chairwoman of the Weltladen e.V. Edeltraud Steiner and treasurer Klaus Ehneß were happy to hand over 500 Euro to SHARE FOR SMILES this year. Together with the calendar earnings in 2018, the donation was used to purchase a solar thermal system for hot water for the orphanage of Kenia-Hilfe Buxheim e.V. in Kenya. Our members Erika and Roland Herbst have built up this facility in Kenya and have been looking after it for years with their team in untiring commitment. Many thanks to the whole Neuburger Weltladen team.
In 2010, we sponsored the orphan Percy Madikwe, the founder of the Guardian Angels Orphan Society, to help build a Better Children and Adolescent Organization in the Bontleng slum in Gaborone. With the donated laptop Percy has written and published various textbooks for preschool children in Botswana. The proceeds from the book sales benefit his organization. Of course, SHARE FOR SMILES has purchased these preschool textbooks at the SHARE FOR SMILES Learning Center in Shakawe, which opened in July 2018. So our donation helps twice.
Teacher Mma Kadimba's quote "We are happy about the donation, the children are happy and excited, and if they see something new, they are thrilled!"
Rupert Klein and dr. Christian Hien supports SHARE FOR SMILES with a total of 2,250 euros. Inspired by the SHARE FOR SMILES calendar project, each year Rupert Klein from Regensburg designs a beautiful Regensburg calendar with self-photographed pictures and donates the proceeds to SHARE FOR SMILES. He could see the interest of his dentist. Hien to awaken our association and convince him of our vision. The donation will benefit our children and youth project in Shakawe, Botswana.

On Wednesday, July 26, 2017, the summer party of our Pindl school took place in Regensburg.
At the same time, the pictures of our previous African calendars, which were reproduced in the art lessons of pupils, were sold. SHARE FOR SMILES was supported with their proceeds and further donations at this event. The money will benefit our aid project in Shakawe (Botswana), which promotes an education and youth center.
We would like to thank all the pupils and all other helpers who have actively participated in the campaign. A special thank you goes to the director of the school Mrs. Andrea Klein and the responsible art teacher. Without them, this great support never came about.

Share for Smiles funded the project of Kenia Hilfe Buxheim with the construction of an outside kitchen in the course of the
construction of an new orphanage in Kilifi. In this context Share for Smiles promoted the furnishing with energy efficient stoves, such as a power efficiency stove and a power saving baking oven,
both wood-fired. This is a step towards more financial independency to the project, as the coal price is continously rising in Kenya and the efficient burning of firewood is getting more and more
important due to the local ecological impact. Read more about our project here.
Five members of Share for Smiles visited Botswana at the beginning of 2014 on a voluntary basis and at their their own expenses. The purpose of the visit were meetings and discussions regarding the erection of a kids and youth center in Gweta. The discussions were supposed to bring a deeper understanding of the special requirements of the Gweta community, to learn from similar projects and their experiences at the same time. During their stay, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic Germany, Mr. Rolf Ulrich and his wife accompanied the Share for Smiles team and visited the SAVE projects in Shakawe. Everyone was deeply impressed about the engagement of the people in Botswana. The visit revealed the need to support the existing young flourishing structures in rural Botswana.
With the illustrated report below, we want to share our impressions and experiences with you.
Extention of a solar system for of the electrification of a boarding school at St. Ruperts (Zimbabwe)
together with learning from the roots* e.V., Share for Smiles funded the extension of an existing solar system (photovoltaics) for water supply at the St. Ruperts' mission in rural Zimbabwe.
The accomplished measure allows to store solar electricity during the course of the day, to provide lighting in the domitories and in the main common kitchen. Furthermore, the electricity supply is independent from load shedding and rising energy prices. To learn more about this project click here.
In January 2014 a Share for Smiles team visited projects in Botswana and learned about the projects of the organisation and its partners.
On the way to social educational projects, we met many highly motivated kids and young people. The way through Botswanas' wilderness was often adventurous - having to travel during the rainy season with unexpected high rainfalls.
More information about all the projects visited will be available soon on this website.
